2009 - Road Tax Doubles.
In his recent Budget speech, Chancellor Alastair Darling unveiled plans to increase the Road Tax on medium and larger cars first registered after 1st Jan. 2001. The cost of a year's Road Tax will increase from the current 185 to between 400 and 750 depending on the vehicle's emissions. This change will take effect on Jan 1st 2009 or April 6th 2009 depending on who you listen to. The increase will have far more impact on motorists than the '4x4' Tax that was widely expected, although 4x4's will also be hit by the measure. The impending increase was hardly noticed or reported by the press. How to avoid the new tax.... It's quite easy. Buy a car registered before Jan. 2001 ( up to and including all 'W' reg cars and some 'X' registered) and you won't have to pay the increase. Get in quick though, as car dealers are already beginning to buy up cars of this age and get a better price for them. By December 2008 such cars will be priced higher than 2001-2 models. If you have a car registered before Jan 2001 Don't replace it. Stick with it, then have it LPG converted with the money you were going to spend on its replacement. You'll then be in the enviable position of paying HALF the Road Tax others are paying for the same size (but newer) car, and HALF of their fuel costs. We have ready converted pre-2001 cars for sale right now.
What we are saying is that the owners of larger cars that are older than (registered before) 1st Jan 2001 will not have their road tax DOUBLED when the new Road Tax Duty is applied in 2009. PLEASE do not phone us for a chat about this, we are busy with LPG conversions. You can get more info on the Road Tax increases by clicking this link - Road Tax Increase |
