| Volvo V40 1800 It does quite well on fuel but at up to 1 a litre for petrol it'll be a lot cheaper to run on LPG! |
| We fitted a 61 litre toroidal tank in the spare wheel well which makes a small bump in the boot carpet. A smaller (lower in height) tank could have been fitted but the owner wanted as much range as he could have whilst still retaining most of the load space. | |
| Some of these cars were supplied as dual fuel from new. The owner of this particular car was wise to source the original moulded carpet covering direct from Volvo. At 89 this wasn't cheap, but it certianly finished the boot floor area off nicely. |
| Becuase these cars were supplied with dual fuel, provision was made for mounting the LPG filler under the petrol flap. Handy! We used it to good effect. There is no need for a dustcap or any bending down to fill the gas tank. |
| Romano 'N' system SGi (Multi point sequential gas injection) equpiment was use for this job. The latest (11/05) style gas switch can be seen here mounted on the Driver's right, easily visible but not intrusive at night.. |
| Here's the converted engine. The 4 gas injectors can be seen sitting on top of the manifold, along with the gas distribution manifold and pipework. The vaporiser (reducer) can be seen mounted at the back of the engine bay. |

Fuel economy........
Given that petrol is now around 2.6 times the price of LPG, this gave an equivalent fuel economy figure of 80mpg in terms of what it would have cost on petrol.
Who said that smaller cars are not worth converting to LPG?
