TransportAction builds on clean fuel success
Story:
Many more motorists will be able to benefit from grants to convert their vehicles to LPG following changes to the PowerShift grant structure.
The move follows a period of rapid growth in the number of LPG refuelling outlets, as well as rising sales of clean fuel vehicles, showing that PowerShift is closer to achieving its aim of kick-starting a sustainable market for clean fuel vehicles.
Transport Minister David Jamieson announced that up to two million extra motorists will be eligible to apply for TransportAction PowerShift grants for converting their cars to use LPG.
From 1 November 2001, drivers of cars up to five years old will be able to apply for TransportAction PowerShift grants for vehicles approved on the PowerShift Register.
Grants will cover up to 50 per cent of the cost of conversion, which typically costs between 1,300 to 1,800.
Commenting on the announcement, Jonathan Murray, director of TransportAction said: "This is really good news as motorists are encouraged to switch and will save even more money on fuel and vehicle taxes and do their bit for the environment. The highest grants will go to those vehicles that offer the greatest emissions benefits. So, not only is TransportAction PowerShift stimulating demand for gas vehicles, it is also helping to ensure that gas vehicles coming onto the road provide real, measurable environmental advantages." - ends -
