280 E model 1993 6 cylinder Impressive 280 E It'll be a lot cheaper to run on LPG...... Not many companies will tackle the big Merc models as they are difficult to convert properly. The job took a little development but the result was worth it. The converted car's performance on LPG is very good, especially when it is 'on the cam' at around 3000 RPM. It is hard to tell which fuel the engine is running on. Only the day to day thickness of the owner's wallet gives a clue..... Here are some pictures of the converted 280 E Fitting a cylinder tank is very difficult on this model if the spare is still to be got from its well. A 90 litre tank fits very well but it must be suspended to on strong rails. The remaining boot space is unaffected whilst the tank holds 74 litres (15.5 imp. gals) of nice cheap LPG. Fitting the filler to the towbar was a good solution on this car The LPG / Petrol fuel choice switch fits neatly on the centre console. Your 280E or other Mercedes 6 cylinder........ Pricing - The Merc 6 cylinder conversion is quite specialised. You won't find many firms offering to do it, and even less getting it right.
